The security of the Palestinian Authority (PA) continues to detain the lawyer, Ahmed Al-Khasib, for the 10th day, after arresting him from his home in Ramallah on June 9.
Today, Thursday, Palestinian lawyers organised a protest in front of the Jenin Magistrate Court of First Instance in the northern occupied West Bank, in solidarity with Al-Khasib, who is being held by the PA security forces in Jericho Central Prison.
Lawyer Assem Kaak stressed that the protocol between the Bar Association and the security services prohibits the arrest of any lawyer before the approval of the Bar Council, which was not the case with Al-Khasib.
Ihsan Al-Khasib, father of the arrested lawyer, demanded immediate justice for his son.
He wrote on his Facebook saying “My son Ahmed (a lawyer under training) was arrested without a legal justification, and without informing the Bar Association, and no lawyer should be arrested for his political opinions.”
According to Al-Khasib family, about 6 days ago, security members dressed in civilian clothes arrested him in front of the mosque in the town of Arora, without any legal justification. The family learnt later that he had been arrested by the intelligence service, and interrogated on vague charges, after which the prosecution renewed his detention for 15 days.
He was also sent to court yesterday by mistake due to similarity of names, where his health and psychological conditions were very poor due to being brutally tortured in Jericho prison. According to his lawyers, his body had bruises, and marks of beatings.
In 2021, the number of political arrests and summonses by the Palestinian security services was more than in 2020, as the number of arrests reached 592 and 406 summonses.
