Microsoft has been directly providing technical support to the Israeli army during its aggression on the Gaza Strip since October 2023, according to documents recently released by the Guardian newspaper.
The report claims that Microsoft enhanced Israeli military and intelligence capabilities by offering cutting-edge cloud computing services, such as Azure technology and artificial intelligence systems.
The degree of Microsoft’s involvement in bolstering the Israeli repression apparatus is also demonstrated by the company’s acquisition of Israeli cybersecurity firms like Aorato, Adallom, and CyberX, which collaborate closely with the Israeli army to create surveillance and espionage systems used against Palestinians.
Microsoft was implicated in war crimes and genocide during the Gaza War, when technical collaborations successfully guided Israeli military strikes that killed thousands of Palestinians, including many women and children, and destroyed the sector’s infrastructure.
Since any kind of assistance that encourages the commission of war crimes or crimes against humanity is forbidden by international humanitarian law, including the Geneva Conventions, giving technical and military support to the Israeli occupation army amounts to actual participation in wartime crimes.
Independent international investigations into the involvement of Microsoft and other large technology companies in aiding Israeli crimes against the Palestinian people are being demanded by human rights experts. They also emphasise the necessity of enforcing stringent legal prohibitions that stop multinational corporations from collaborating with human rights-violating governments.
