According to activists, the Specialised Criminal Court in Saudi Arabia issued a 23-year prison sentence against activist Maha Sulaiman Al-Qaraani Al-Huwaiti.
Maha was arrested and sentenced for Tweeting against the high cost of living in Saudi Arabia and for opposing the forced displacement of Al-Huwaitat tribe.
Recently, the same court had sentenced the activist Salma Al-Shahabi for 34 years, recording the highest sentence against activists in Saudi Arabia.
These sentences came soon after the visit of the US President Joe Biden to Saudi Arabia, which activists feared that it would give the Saudi regime the green light to commit more violations against activists demanding freedom and political reform.
Human rights reports documented the torture, sexual harassments, as well as unfair trials and arbitrary rulings against activists.
