The Saudi authorities have continued to arbitrarily detain Dr. Abdul Mohsen Al-Ahmad for nearly 64 months for expressing his opinion.
On September 12, 2017, a Saudi force stormed Al-Ahmad’s house and took him to an unknown destination, without revealing the reasons for his arrest.
Al-Ahmad’s arrest came after posting a video criticising the policies of the Saudi regime. He was charged of excreting external pressures, and changing the values of the Saudis.
Al-Ahmad is one of the victims of the famous September 2017 arrest campaign against journalists, activists, and women as well, and is considered the largest arrest campaign in the history of Saudi Arabia.
Recently, the Special Rapporteur on the promotion and protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms while combating terrorism, Fionnuala Ni Olin, published a report on secret detention, and stressed that Saudi Arabia uses combatting terrorism as a pretext to arrest human rights and civil rights activists.
