A Saudi court has sentenced Malik Al-Dawish to 27 years in prison. He was arrested on July 5, 2022, after publishing videos calling for the release of his father and two brothers. He was released in early September 2022, only to be rearrested weeks later, and he is still in detention.
Malik is the son of Dr. Suleiman Al-Dawish, who has been detained in Saudi Arabia since April 22, 2016, and has been forcibly disappeared by the authorities until now.
It is noteworthy that since Prince Mohamed bin Salman assumed power in Saudi Arabia in 2015, prominent preachers and activists have been arrested on charges of “terrorism and conspiracy against the state”. They have been tried in meagre trials, and harsh sentences were passed against many of them, some of which amounted to the death penalty.
