The number of children who died from dehydration and malnutrition at Kamal Adwan, north of the Gaza Strip, increased to 13.
Hossam Abu Safiya, director of Kamal Adwan Hospital, said that seven children have died in the hospital in the northern Gaza Strip from malnutrition since last Tuesday.
Earlier Thursday, Health Ministry spokesperson Ashraf al-Qudra said that the Israeli occupation is waging a starvation war on the people of Gaza.
Al-Qudra added that the number of deaths from starvation is increasing, especially among children. There are numbers of children in intensive care who are at risk of dying of hunger, he added.
He further pointed out that the Israeli occupation obstructs the efforts of all humanitarian organisations, stressing that “the health system in northern Gaza is completely helpless, especially after the closure of Kamal Adwan Hospital.”
Al-Qudra affirmed on Wednesday that two children died of dehydration and malnutrition at al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, bringing the death toll from hunger in northern Gaza today to six.
Earlier, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) warned that the sharp rise in malnutrition among children, pregnant women and lactating mothers in the Gaza Strip poses a “serious threat” to their health, especially with the ongoing war.
During the ongoing war on Gaza for the 146th day, the Israeli occupation has put 31 hospitals in Gaza out of service through bombing, destruction and deprivation of medical supplies and fuel, and has partially targeted 152 health facilities, according to the Government Media Office in Gaza.
Since October 7, the Israeli occupation army has waged a devastating war on the Gaza Strip, which has left an enormous humanitarian catastrophe and a major health and environmental disaster.
The Israeli occupation destroyed the only supplies of fuel, electricity, water, and food for the people of the Gaza Strip at the start of the conflict by bombing bakeries, factories, stores, water stations, tanks, and other infrastructure.
The Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip constitutes a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and human rights, as it exposes the civilians’ lives to extreme danger and causes them great suffering, which requires urgent and decisive international intervention to stop the aggression and protect civilians in the Gaza Strip.
