The Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip appealed to the international community, UN and international organisations, and Arab, Islamic and friendly countries to take action to save the health system, and to provide support and purchase a number of electrical generators to ensure the functioning of hospitals.
The Ministry noted in a statement today, Wednesday, that it has been relying on diesel generators for about nine months to supply hospitals with electricity.
It indicated that these generators operate around the clock without stopping, and many of them have suffered major technical malfunctions that are difficult to repair, and some of them were destroyed and directly bombed by the IOF.
The ministry expects a number of major generators to be out of service during the coming period as a result of preventing the entry of spare parts needed for periodic maintenance to ensure the continued operation of the generators, which means certain death for the sick and injured and the complete end of the health service.
It confirmed that the IOF attempted to put the health system out of service by destroying all the electrical generators in Shifa Complex, Nasser Complex, and the Indonesian Hospital, and finally destroying the generators of Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza.
It also pointed out that one of the most important main generators in Al-Aqsa Hospital broke down, and the hospital is currently working with one generator, meaning that a disaster is approaching, and the hospital will be completely out of service.
The Ministry of Health added that it has been trying, since the beginning of the war, with several relevant international bodies, to work on supplying and purchasing generators, but to no avail, stressing that the ban comes by a decision from the occupation.
The Israeli occupation’s continued targeting of health facilities in the Gaza Strip represents a flagrant violation of international humanitarian and human rights law, which guarantees protection for health centres and health sector workers.
Since last October 7; The Israeli occupation forces have been waging a devastating war on the Gaza Strip, which has left tens of thousands dead and wounded, enormous humanitarian conditions, and a major health and environmental catastrophe, as a result of the destruction of vital facilities and the overflow of sewage in large areas.
Since the beginning of the war; The occupation cut off all supplies of electricity, water, fuel and food to the residents of the Gaza Strip, bombed bakeries, factories, stores, water stations and tanks, and destroyed the infrastructure.
The Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip constitutes a blatant violation of international humanitarian law and human rights, as it exposes the lives and property of civilians to extreme danger and causes them great suffering, which requires urgent and decisive intervention from the international community to stop the aggression and protect civilians in the Gaza Strip.
