Palestinian grandfather Khaled Al-Nabhan, known as “soul of the soul,” was killed on Monday in an Israeli bombing of the Nuseirat camp in the central Gaza Strip.
Al-Nabhan rose to prominence after his granddaughter Reem was killed in an Israeli bombing in November 2023, when he appeared in a heartfelt video clip bidding her farewell with tender words that had a profound impact on Palestinians and the rest of the world.
Following the death of his granddaughter, Al-Nabhan dedicated his life to assisting the displaced in the Gaza Strip, particularly children, and was well-known for his humanitarian initiatives aimed at alleviating civilian suffering and supporting those affected by Israeli aggression.
Genocide and Tragic Conditions
On the same day that Al-Nabhan was killed, another Palestinian was killed by Israeli army bullets in Rafah, in the southern Gaza Strip, while Israeli artillery and gunboats targeted various areas, including the Al-Janina neighbourhood east of Rafah and the town of Khuza’a east of Khan Yunis.
In the northern Gaza Strip town of Beit Lahia, an airstrike killed five Palestinians and injured several others.
According to eyewitnesses, the raid targeted a house in the Beit Lahia project, adding to a long history of crimes described as “genocide and ethnic cleansing” by Palestinian and international human rights organisations.
A rising death toll
The Ministry of Health in Gaza announced on Monday that the death toll in the Strip had risen to 45,028, the majority of whom were children and women, since the beginning of Israel’s extermination war on October 7, 2023.
The number of injuries has also risen to 106,962, with thousands of victims still trapped beneath the rubble due to the suffocating siege that prevents basic humanitarian aid from entering.
The Israeli occupation is committing war crimes and crimes against humanity in the Gaza Strip, with American military and political support, amidst one of the worst humanitarian disasters in modern times, as the siege and bombing caused a famine that killed dozens of children and the elderly, as well as a complete collapse of medical and humanitarian services.
Khaled Al-Nabhan’s death exemplifies the humanitarian tragedy endured by Gaza Strip residents, who are killed on a daily basis as a result of ongoing Israeli bombardment and forced displacement, necessitating immediate action to end this barbaric war and hold those responsible for crimes against innocent civilians accountable.
