The number of Palestinian prisoners who have died in Israeli occupation prisons since October 7, 2023, has risen to 24 after the death of the prisoner Nasr Salem Said Ziara (65 years old) from Gaza in Ramle prison.
Ziara passed away on August 16th, and his death was only recently discovered following a visit by some prisoners at Ramle prison. He is one of many detainees from Gaza who have died as a result of systematic torture, while the occupation continues to conceal the identities of the majority of them and detain their bodies.
According to his family, Ziara was married and a father of seven children. He was arrested on December 29, 2023, alongside his son Jihad (37 years old) who is detained in Negev prison, from their home in the Tuffah neighborhood in Gaza City. They underwent a field investigation inside the house, along with hours of torture before their arrest.
Ziara was in a very critical health condition, including burns on the lower part of his body.
With the death of the detainee Ziara, the number of deaths among prisoners and detainees announced since October 7th has risen to 24 since the start of the genocidal war against Palestinians in Gaza, with only their identities known and announced.
The occupation continues to conceal the identities of dozens of deceased detainees who have died in prisons and camps, and the exact number of them is unknown, except for those subjected to extrajudicial executions.
The extremist right-wing Minister of National Security in the Israeli occupation government, Itamar Ben Gvir, recently called for the execution of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli occupation prisons by shooting them in the head.
Ben Gvir said in a video that “Palestinian prisoners should be killed with a shot to the head,” calling for the passage of the law on the execution of prisoners in the Israeli Knesset on its third reading, and pledging to provide minimal food to keep them alive until the law takes effect.
With Ziara’s death, the number of deaths and casualties of the captive movement since 1967 rises to 261, only those whose information has been documented over the past decades.
