These Fast Trials Indicate that Saudi Regime is Going to shuffle the cards as the First Anniversary of Khashoggi’s Assassinating Approaches
Arab Organisation for Human Rights in the UK (AOHR UK) has expressed its deep concern over the ongoing secret hearings to try Salman Al-Ouda and others in the absence of international lawyers, journalists or any members of his family.
AOHR UK added that Abdullah Al-Ouda announced this morning that his father “Salman Al-Ouda “will appear before the specialised court in Riyadh hours later today. A few days ago, Abdullah said that the family in Saudi Arabia received a call informing them of the transfer of his father from prison to Riyadh because of the presence of a quick trial.
AOHR UK also pointed out that despite the repeated appeals to the Saudi authorities to stop these arbitrary trials and to enable detainees to enjoy their legal rights, the authorities continue to proceed in doing what the international community considers grave violations.
AOHR UK highlighted that continuing of taking arbitrary measures by the Saudi authorities to try intellectuals and activists in secret and without proper legal representation makes their trials void, politicised and unacceptable.
AOHR UK stressed that without taking practical measures from countries close to the Saudi regime, this regime won’t take any step forward to demonstrate its serious commitment to human rights conventions.
AOHR UK also pointed out that the timing of this quick trial, as the anniversary of the assassination of journalist Jamal Khashoggi inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul approaches, raises suspicions that the Saudi regime in seeking to shuffle the cards in order to distract attention from the assassination of Khashoggi. A case in which the main suspect in it is the Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
AOHR UK called on the Secretary-General of the United Nations to take the necessary practical measures to save activists and intellectuals from prisons and political trials, as the Saudi regime has revealed via its arbitrary measures that it is seeking to get rid of those who are believed to be opposing to it through artificial trials and medical negligence.
