Israeli occupation forces committed a massacre against Palestinian civilians in the Shuja’iyya neighbourhood in eastern Gaza, killing 38 people and injuring more than 85, most of them women and children.
This massacre marks a continued escalation in the ongoing campaign of genocide targeting Gaza’s population for over a year and a half.
Medical and human rights sources reported that the Wednesday attack targeted adjacent homes belonging to Palestinian families, resulting in the obliteration of entire residential areas.
Survivor testimonies and rescue team reports confirmed that Israeli forces used heavy weaponry on densely populated areas, in blatant violation of the principles of international humanitarian law, which prohibit attacks on civilians and vital infrastructure.
The Palestinian Civil Defence stated that dozens of victims remain trapped under the rubble. At the same time, rescue crews are unable to reach them due to ongoing shelling and a critical lack of rescue equipment.
According to the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, the systematic targeting of civilians, widespread destruction of infrastructure, and the imposition of living conditions designed to cause mass extermination all constitute acts of genocide under international law. Despite the clear nature of these crimes, major world powers continue to provide political and diplomatic cover for Israel, obstructing any international efforts toward accountability or cessation of the crimes.
While entire neighbourhoods are being erased, the international community largely responds with deliberate silence. Some nations even persist in providing political and military support to the occupation. Although international laws clearly criminalize genocide, the political will to enforce them is conspicuously absent, highlighting the global double standards in addressing crimes against humanity.
As the death toll rises and the devastation spreads, calls are growing louder for immediate action to hold the occupation accountable and to stop these ongoing massacres. Yet one question remains: How long will the world remain silent while the genocide in Gaza continues unchecked?
