Time for International Criminal Court to Act Now for Justice in Palestine
“Enough is Enough” has been the widespread call following the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) failure to date even to open an investigation into the international crimes committed against Palestinian civilians in Gaza and the occupied territories. The ICC has been considering the case for the past 10 years. As ICC State Parties gathered in The Hague at the end of 2019 for their annual Assembly, and received the Prosecutor’s latest report on Palestine, it was again made clear that no investigation is yet opened. Recent pronouncements by the US government denying the unlawfulness of settlements (which come within the ICC’s jurisdiction) have also been a cause for heightened concern in failing to uphold international law and in promoting impunity. The Arab Organisation for Human Rights in the UK (AOHR) will host an event to highlight that justice delayed is justice denied for Palestinian victims. It will focus on the steps that can be taken to pursue justice and accountability through the ICC, other courts and all other avenues without any further delay.
