The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) has monitored the displacement of more than 20,000 citizens in Yemen since the beginning of 2022, whereas the numbers announced a week ago were 18,000.
The organisation highlighted that “IOM Yemen DTM estimates that 3,368 households (HH) (20,208 Individuals) have experienced displacement at least once.”, adding that the displacement took place as a result of war from the beginning of January 2022 until February 19, most of whom were from Ma’rib (central), Hodeidah (west) and Taiz (southwest)”.
About a month ago, The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), announced that the total number of displaced people across Yemen has risen to 4.2 million since the beginning of the war in March 2015, noting that there are substantial humanitarian needs for those displaced, while funding is very limited.
For seven years, Yemen has been witnessing a war that has claimed 233,000 lives, and caused the worst humanitarian crisis in the world, leaving 80% of the population (30 million) dependent on aid to survive.
