Two Palestinians have been killed and a third injured by Israeli Occupation Forces in separate areas across the Gaza Strip.
Al-Awda Hospital in Nuseirat reported on Saturday that over the past 24 hours it had received the body of a man retrieved by residents from Zahra City, as well as another civilian who was injured after Israeli forces opened fire east of Al-Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza.
In a related incident, medical sources confirmed that another man died from wounds sustained on Friday after being shot by Israeli forces in Al-Shuja’iyya neighbourhood, east of Gaza City.
The continued assaults on densely populated civilian areas constitute a flagrant violation of international obligations, particularly those that stipulate the protection of civilians during armed conflict. Indiscriminate attacks on civilian areas breach the principles of distinction and proportionality enshrined in international humanitarian law, which require warring parties to refrain from targeting sites that do not have a direct military character.
This escalation comes as the Strip continues to endure the devastating aftermath of a two-year genocidal war that left more than 68,000 people dead and 170,000 wounded, the majority of them women and children, amid the absence of any genuine accountability for the violations committed throughout that war.
The persistent and repeated killing of civilians reflects a grave moral and humanitarian collapse, underscoring the urgent need for serious international action to end the prevailing culture of impunity and to guarantee even the bare minimum of protection for a population trapped in a war without end and under ceasefire agreements that are routinely violated within hours of their signing.
