The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) has called for an independent inquiry into reports that Israeli occupation forces (IOF) “summarily executed” at least 11 unarmed Palestinian men in front of their families in the Gaza Strip.
The OHCHR published a report affirming that Israeli soldiers “deliberately” killed 11 unarmed Palestinians in front of their families in the Al-Rimal neighbourhood in Gaza City.
The report was based on testimonies obtained following previous allegations that Israeli forces deliberately targeted and killed Palestinian civilians.
“The Israeli authorities must immediately institute an independent, thorough and effective investigation into these allegations,” said the OHCHR.
These Israeli crimes require that human rights and international organisations take effective measures to limit these violations, bring those responsible for these violations to justice, adopt protection policies for civilians potentially at risk, and provide the necessary support to families affected by these violations. The international community must assume its responsibilities in implementing those procedures.
Since Oct. 7, the Israeli occupation army has launched a bloody aggression on the Gaza Strip, causing a severe humanitarian and health catastrophe.
Since the start of the war, the Israeli occupation cut off all supplies of power, water, fuel, and food to the residents of the Gaza Strip. It also bombarded bakeries, factories, stores, and water stations and tanks, leading to the destruction of infrastructure.
The Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip constitutes a blatant violation of international humanitarian and human rights law as it exposes civilians’ lives to extreme danger, which requires immediate international intervention.
The international community must force the Israeli occupation forces to abide by international human rights and humanitarian laws, mainly protecting the rights and lives of civilians, prohibiting their targeting and preserving their safety, and holding the Israeli leaders accountable for committing war crimes in the Gaza Strip.
