Arab Organisation for Human Rights in the UK (AOHR UK) sent a letter to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, welcoming his decision to include the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) on the United Nations blacklist of parties that commit grave violations against children in armed conflicts. It stressed that this courageous decision, albeit late, is an important step which encourages countries of the world to impose sanctions on the occupation entity, reject it, and criminalise countries that supply the it with lethal weapons.
According to the numbers announced by international organisations, at least 15,500 Palestinian children were killed during the current war waged by the Israeli occupation on the Gaza Strip for more than 8 months, and at least 14,000 children have been injured, including a thousand children who lost their limbs. Furthermore, more than 12,000 children are left alone without a family, after their families were killed or arrested by the occupation forces.
The occupation not only used all kinds of lethal weapons in its extermination war on Gaza, but it also used starvation and preventing access to drinking water to the civilians as a weapon, causing high rates of malnutrition, especially among children and the sick, and threatening thousands of deaths as a result.
AOHR UK stressed its full solidarity with the United Nations against the systematic campaign launched by the Israeli occupation officials against the Secretary-General and the entire organisation, stressing that these attacks reveal the importance of the decision against these brutal crimes, which the occupation did not refrain from committing despite all the international warnings, Security Council resolutions, and the International Criminal Court.
AOHR UK called on the Secretary-General to take immediate steps to freeze Israel’s membership in the United Nations, stressing that this measure is necessary to prove that the international community will not tolerate any practices that violate human rights and international laws and conventions, and to deliver a clear message that those who commit genocide and war crimes, cannot be part of a body dedicated to peace and security.
AOHR UK also urged the world countries to bring the United Nations resolutions into actions and take the necessary measures to stop the ongoing genocide. It is unacceptable for the occupying government to remain free to commit more crimes while enjoying total impunity.
