Under the direction of Counselor Mohamed El-Saeed El-Sherbiny, the Egyptian Supreme State Security Criminal Court’s first terrorism circuit, which was held at the Badr Courts Complex today, Sunday, rendered unjust decisions against several media personalities who criticize the government.
According to the details, media figures Hamza Zobaa, Moataz Matar, Abdullah El-Sherif, Mohamed Nasser, and 14 others were given a 25-year life sentence and a 15-year hard labor sentence on charges of joining and taking leadership of a terrorist organization that was founded in violation of the law and the constitution, as well as committing the crime of financing terrorism. The Egyptian regime has a practice of directing these charges against its opponents in order to abuse and imprison them.
Hamza Zobaa, Moataz Matar, Mohamed Nasser, Sayed Tawkel, Abdullah Al-Sharif, Galal Abdel Samee, Abdel Rahman Zaghloul, Mosaab Abdel Hamid, Mohamed Ali Al-Khatib, and Yasser Sayed Al-Hawari were also given 25-year prison sentences by the court.
Additionally, it imposed a 15-year prison sentence on Hussein Karim, Mahmoud Gomaa, Mohamed Anis, Mohamed Sayed, Mohamed Al-Marshady, Reda Al-Sayed Abu Al-Gheit, and Mohamed Gomaa.
As the Egyptian government launches an unprecedented campaign of repression against opponents and critics, dozens of Egyptian journalists have been imprisoned since Sisi came to power. The international community and human rights organizations are being called upon to intervene in order to stop the ongoing violations by the Egyptian regime.
