As the Israeli aggression persists in Gaza for the 65th consecutive day, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) has reported the death of 133 of its employees in Gaza, many with their families, due to the occupation’s airstrikes.
The UN agency expressed, “Our staff in Gaza take their children to work so they know they are safe, or can die together.” Through its official account on “X”, it added, “The situation of civilians in #Gaza is untenable, we are reaching a point of no return..”
UNRWA concluded, stating, “133 UNRWA colleagues have been confirmed killed in bombardments, most with their families..”
In a separate post, Thomas White, Director of UNRWA Affairs in Gaza, remarked, “The war has inflicted significant losses on Gaza and its inhabitants, with families losing loved ones, property, and homes.”
White continued, “Despite the challenging circumstances, UNRWA employees persist in their tireless service to the community amidst a scarcity of humanitarian aid and the ongoing conflict.”
In the same vein, the agency declared that the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip has reached a “catastrophic” state.
This information emerged from an interview with UNRWA spokeswoman Tamara Al-Rifai conducted by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), and the agency shared the content via its “X” platform account.
The UN official emphasised that UNRWA teams have only been able to distribute aid in a very limited part of southern Gaza. She underscored that many Gaza residents remain unreachable for UNRWA teams due to the relentless intensity of the ongoing bombardment.
Since October 7th, the Israeli occupation forces have waged a devastating war on the Gaza Strip, resulting in dire humanitarian and health conditions due to sustained airstrikes and the blockade of essential supplies such as food, water, medicine, and electricity.
The Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip represents a blatant violation of international humanitarian law and human rights, imperilling the lives and property of civilians, necessitating urgent and decisive intervention from the international community to halt the aggression and safeguard Gaza’s civilian population.
