More than 330,000 tons of waste are accumulating in populated areas across the Gaza Strip due to the ongoing Israeli war on the Strip since October 7, 2023.
As of 9 June, over 330,000 tons of waste have accumulated in or near populated areas across Gaza, posing catastrophic environmental & health risks, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) said on the “X”.
Children rummage through trash daily, it added.
Unimpeded humanitarian access and ceasefire agreement are crucial to restoring humane living conditions, the UN agency said.
Since October 7, 2023, the Israeli occupation forces have been waging a devastating war on the Gaza Strip, resulting in catastrophic humanitarian and health conditions, due to the continuous bombing and the prevention of supplies of food, water, medicine, and electricity.
More than 118,000 Palestinians were killed and wounded during the aggression, most of them children and women, and about 10,000 were reported missing amid massive destruction and famine.
The Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip constitutes a blatant violation of international humanitarian law and human rights, as it exposes the lives and property of civilians to extreme danger, which requires urgent intervention from the international community to stop the aggression and protect civilians in the Gaza Strip.
