The Israeli occupation continues its systematic targeting of healthcare facilities in Gaza, posing a direct threat to civilian lives and violating the fundamental principles protecting medical facilities during conflicts.
In this context, medical sources reported that Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahia town, northern Gaza, is facing a catastrophic crisis after the water, medical oxygen, and electricity supplies were cut off since Saturday evening due to the continuous Israeli shelling of the hospital and its surroundings.
A medical source from inside the hospital confirmed that the situation within the hospital is extremely dire, with surgical procedures impossible due to the lack of oxygen and water, exacerbating the suffering of patients under the imposed blockade and harsh conditions.
The hospital director, Hussam Abu Safiya, stated that the Israeli bombardment resulted in injuries to medical staff and patients, destruction of water and oxygen tanks, fuel storage, and setting fire to electricity generators.
He pointed out that these attacks directly endanger the lives of hundreds of patients, including children and women.
Meanwhile, Gaza’s Ministry of Health Director-General, Munir al-Borsh, stated that the direct half-hour shelling of the hospital caused a complete power outage, halting vital medical equipment and worsening the catastrophic health situation.
The Palestinian Ministry of Health issued a statement on Friday urging the international community, human rights organizations, and humanitarian groups to urgently act to stop the repeated Israeli attacks on healthcare facilities in the region, which represent a blatant violation of international law.
The continued targeting of hospitals and healthcare facilities in Gaza constitutes a war crime under international humanitarian law, imposing legal and ethical responsibility on the international community for immediate intervention.
Silence on these crimes reinforces a culture of impunity and puts the lives of thousands of civilians at risk, necessitating urgent action to ensure the protection of civilians and vital infrastructure in conflict areas.
