The Israeli Ministerial Committee for Legislative Affairs approved a bill to reinstate the death penalty for Palestinian prisoners, which will soon come up for a preliminary reading in the Knesset.
The international law and the Geneva Convention guarantee a full protection for all Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons, as resisting occupation is a legitimate right under international law, where Israel must respect the human rights of Palestinian detainees as war prisoners.
The racist bill, that the Israeli occupation seeks to approve, will reinforce the repressive and abusive policies against the Palestinian prisoners, as it will give the prison authorities green light to increase the use of solitary confinement and violations against the Palestinian Captive Movement leaders under the pretext of allegedly being extremely dangerous detainees.
The prisoners are already suffering from difficult detention conditions and medical negligence. However, this bill will deepen their suffering and deny them their basic human rights, including food, drink, bathing, and sports.
In light of this dangerous escalation, the Arab Organisation for Human Rights in the UK invites you to participate in a webinar on the legal and humanitarian aspects of this Israeli bill, and ways to stop the proposed legislation.
