The Israeli occupation forces (IOF) forcibly displaced 360,000 Palestinians from Rafah in a week without having a safe place to go, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) revealed on Monday.
“Nearly 360,000 people have fled Rafah since the first evacuation order a week ago,” UNRWA stated on X.
“Meanwhile, in north Gaza bombardments and other evacuation orders have created more displacement and fear for thousands of families,” it added.
The agency further underlined: “There’s nowhere to go. There’s NO safety without a ceasefire.”
Last Saturday, the occupation army called for the immediate eviction of residents from neighbourhoods in the city center, expanding its operations that started last Monday, east of the city, in defiance of the growing international warnings about the expansion of military operations in Rafah.
On May 5, the occupation authorities closed the Kerem Abu Salem commercial crossing on the border with Gaza, while the Rafah crossing on the border between the Gaza Strip and Egypt continued to be closed for the seventh day after announcing control over it on Tuesday morning.
Since October 7, 2023, the IOF has been waging a devastating war on the Gaza Strip, resulting in catastrophic humanitarian and health conditions, due to the continuous bombing and the prevention of supplies of food, water, medicine, and electricity.
The Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip constitutes a blatant violation of international humanitarian law and human rights, as it exposes the lives and property of civilians to extreme danger, which requires urgent intervention from the international community to stop the aggression and protect civilians in the Gaza Strip.
