Two civilians were killed and 42 others injured in preliminary figures following intense air raids carried out by US and Israeli warplanes targeting civilian facilities in Hudaydah Governorate, western Yemen. This escalation adds to a series of repeated assaults on vital Yemeni areas, the latest being the bombing of a cement factory in Bajil District—one of the province’s key economic facilities.
The airstrikes, which coincided with heavy bombardment of the strategic port of Hudaydah, involved dozens of fighter jets, according to Hebrew media outlets. They resulted in extensive destruction of infrastructure and numerous civilian casualties, particularly among workers at the factory.
Channel 12 reported that around 30 Israeli fighter jets took part in the assault on Hudaydah Port.
On Sunday evening, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to launch attacks on Yemen following the Houthi group’s missile strike on Ben Gurion Airport in response to the ongoing massacres committed by the Israeli occupation against civilians in the besieged Gaza Strip.
This attack comes amid a broader regional escalation, involving direct US and Israeli military interventions in Yemeni territory, targeting service facilities and civilian ports—including Yemen’s main port—deepening the country’s already dire humanitarian crisis. Millions of Yemenis depend on these facilities for access to food and medical supplies, in a nation facing one of the world’s worst humanitarian catastrophes in recent years.
According to the fundamental principles of international law, warring parties must take all feasible precautions to avoid harm to civilians, accurately identify military targets, and ensure that military operations do not cause disproportionate harm to the civilian population. Nevertheless, the airstrikes launched by Israeli and US forces since the beginning of the year—totaling more than 1,300 raids according to local statistics—have resulted in hundreds of deaths and injuries, and widespread destruction of vital infrastructure.
The latest assault is merely another episode in a series of strikes undermining the security and stability of civilians in Yemen, amid ongoing international silence—fostering a culture of impunity, undermining the principles of international justice, and exacerbating the suffering of the region’s peoples.
