Six Palestinian prisoners are engaged in an open hunger strike in protest against their continued detention in Israeli jails.
The two female prisoners, Ataf Jaradat and Fatima Shaheen, have been on an open-ended hunger strike for three consecutive days in protest against their arbitrary transfer to the “criminal prisoners” section of “Ramla Prison after being held in the “Ramla Prison Clinic” due to their difficult health situation.
The two prisoners’ transfer to criminal prisoners section, which includes Israeli criminal prisoners held for crimes related to murder and drugs, poses a real threat to the Palestinian prisoners’ lives.
Prior to their transfer, the two female prisoners, Jaradat and Shaheen, were subjected to a brutal assault and abuse while their hands and feet were tied for refusing their arbitrary transfer to criminal prisoners section.
The two prisoners, Iyad Radwan al-Tabanja and Samer Abu Diak, have also declared hunger strike in solidarity with Jaradat and Shaheen.
Along the same line, the two prisoners, Omar Al-Sanajel and Ismail Halabiya, are engaged in an open-ended hunger strike for the 13th and 7th days to protest against their administrative detention.
Administrative detention is ordered by the Israeli military commander and grounded on “secret file.” Under administrative detention policy, a prisoner is held without charge or trial for up to 6 months, which can be renewed.
There are currently 4,900 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails, including 28 female prisoners.
