Six Palestinian prisoners are currently facing serious dangers due to the open-ended hunger strike they began in protest against their continued imprisonment and the renewal of their administrative detention by the occupation authorities.
Striking prisoners are:
Kayed Al-Fasfous – 85 days of hunger strike
Miqdad Al-Qawasmi – 79 days of hunger strike
Alaa Al-Araj – 61 days of hunger strike
Hisham Abu Hawash – 53 days of hunger strike
Rayek Bisharat – 48 days of hunger strike
Shadi Abu Eker – 45 days of hunger strike
In addition to the prisoner, Mohammed Al-Ardah – one of the six prisoners who succeeded in liberating themselves from Gilboa Prison. He has been on a hunger strike for the third day, protesting against the harsh conditions of his isolation, and the penalties imposed on him by the Ashkelon prison administration since he was transferred to it more than a week ago.
In a video clip, Al-Qawasmi, who was transferred from Ofer Prison to Kaplan Hospital after his health deteriorated, said, “Despite the seriousness of my health deterioration and the possibility of my death any minute, I will not end my hunger strike until I have my freedom and be with my family and my loved ones, and I am ready to sacrifice and pay the price.”
Administrative detention is defined as detention without charge or trial, which depends on a secret file that the detainee or his lawyer cannot access. According to the military orders of the occupation, an administrative detention order can be renewed unlimited times, where an administrative detention order is issued for a maximum renewable period of six months.
Moreover, there is a noticeable increase in the number of sick prisoners held in the occupation prisons due to the continuous and deliberate medical negligence, the lack of required medicines to treat their illnesses, where prisoners are only given painkillers regardless of the disease they have.
Arab Organisation for Human Rights in the UK (AOHR UK) calls on all activists and human rights defenders to unite their efforts in order to make the voices of the prisoners heard by the whole world, and to put pressure on the Israeli occupation authorities to immediately release the striking prisoners, respond to all their demands and ensure that they obtain all their rights.
