The Palestinian Authority (PA) security services have continued to arrest a number of students and political activists for several days.
Palestinian intelligence services in Hebron arrested ex-prisoner Salah Azghair from his workplace on Tuesday, December 7, 2021.
The PA forces also summoned the student at Hebron University, Basil Farrah, for investigation, and detained Imad Al-Qawasmi.
The young man, Imad Al-Qawasmi, and the ex-prisoner Hamza Jibril Thiab Al-Jiawi and the student at Birzeit University, Urwa Naimah Al-Koumi, continued to be arrested for the eighth consecutive day.
The Palestinian security forces also continued to arbitrarily detain the political activist Jasser Dwaikat for the 45th consecutive day.
In Qalqilya, the PA intelligence service summoned several ex-prisoners for investigation including: Mohsen Shreim Abu Islam, Louay Freij Abu Al-Abed, Yasser Hammad Abu Khabib, Muayyad Shreim Abu Ali, Musa Al-Sawy Abu Sayyaf, Shaker Owainat Al-Murr and Muhammad Abdul Rahman. They were all later released.
In Nablus, Palestinian intelligence services summoned the ex-prisoners Islam Bashkar and Amr Jarrar, knowing that Jarrar was released on bail last Thursday after 18-day of detention during which he was beaten and tortured.
Also in Nablus, PA security services continued to arrest the ex-prisoner Abu Hamadna for the 16th day in a row, and the ex-prisoner Ahmed Melhem for the 9th day in a row, and the ex-prisoner Munther Youssef Ahmed for the eighth day in a row.
In Jenin, the PA security services continue to arrest Muhammad Al-Azmi for the 55th consecutive day, Muhammad Shalabi Abu Al-Jaber for the 36th day in a row, the ex-prisoner Juma’a Adnan Al-Ghoul for the 36th day in a row, the ex-prisoner Noureddin Al-Jarbou for the 13th day in a row, and Muhammad Khaled Turkman for the 13th day respectively, Thaer Adel Shawahna for the 13th day in a row, Ahmed Marwan Al-Ghoul for the 12th day in a row, Ahmed Muayyad Al-Saadi for the 10th day in a row, Muhammad Nasser Al-Saadi for the 9th day in a row, and the ex-prisoner Ibrahim Abedi for the 7th day in a row.
In Tulkarm, the student at Birzeit University, Yazid Kamal, continued to be detained for the third consecutive day.
In Bethlehem, the PA security services also continue to arrest Anis Hamamra and Sheikh Mazen Zaoul for the ninth consecutive day, and the minor Muhammad Shaheen for the eighth consecutive day.
In Tubas; the PA Preventive Security Service continue to detain the ex-prisoner, Fadi Abdel Razek, for the ninth consecutive day.
In Qabatiya, the ex-prisoner, Hassan Ismail Abu Al-Rub, continued to be held for the 26th consecutive day.
The European Union Representative has earlier issued a statement in agreement with the EU Heads of Mission in Jerusalem and Ramallah, criticising the increase in apparently politically motivated arrests by the Palestinian Authority over the past few months.
The EU missions called on the Palestinian Authority to meet the standards of the International Human Rights conventions to which they have acceded, including on freedom of expression, as well as freedom of association and assembly.
