The Egyptian authorities involve its political detainees in new cases to keep them imprisoned, even after acquittal rulings have been issued for them in their original cases.
The family of the Egyptian detainee “Ali Hassan Ali Hassan”, known as “Alaa Hodeeb”, called for an urgent action to stop the violations he is being subjected to by the Egyptian authorities, which continue to hold him for the fourth time despite his release order.
His family is concerned over his life and health which is deteriorating significantly, pointing out that the administration of the Faqous police station refuses to release him, and holds him in a cell that does not meet the minimum standards of human safety and health, and negatively affects his health condition.
The family added that “since his second arbitrary arrest on September 6, 2020, he has been subjected to a series of violations and the Ministry of Interior refuses to implement the court’s acquittals orders issued for him.”
“Hadeeb” suffers from diabetes, has a disability in one of his feet since childhood, and he underwent many surgeries. His health is deteriorating in his prison, and his ongoing detention is slowly killing him.”
Hodeeb’s family had earlier called for his release to go back to his family and six children, who were deprived of him for the second time. He had been imprisoned before on political charges in 2014 and 2015 and was released by a military court order.
The Egyptian authorities systematically involve many political detainees in new cases, by either releasing activists for weeks or months, then re-arresting them in new cases with the same old charges, or by subjecting them to enforced disappearance following their acquittal orders and bringing them to courts in new cases with almost the same charges.
