The wife of the Egyptian political detainee Hossam Salam shared a distress call to save her husband who is held in solitary confinement, saying “My husband is currently being held in a solitary cell inside the inhumane and heavy guarded scorpion prison 1, that lacks ventilation and has caused him breathing problems. He is also denied entry of personal belongings and medications and has been denied visitation as well.”
She added, “He went on a hunger strike for the fifth day in response to the rejection of his demands by the prison authorities.”
Salam’s wife called for a speedy response to his demands, to end his solitary detention, and save his life.
The Egyptian security forces had arrested Salam while travelling from Khartoum to Istanbul. His plane landed in Luxor in Egypt, where he got arrested and subjected to enforced disappearance before being transferred to the Scorpion prison.
In March 2020, Salam was sentenced to 25 years in prison in a military trial in case 64 of 2017, on charges of attempting to assassinate the Prosecutor General in September 2016, which was denied by his family and friends.
