The Sudan Doctors Committee announced the death of Ibrahim Majzoub after being shot in the chest by security forces during the dispersal of demonstrations in the East Nile region, east of Khartoum.
The Sudanese security forces fired tear gas, and sound bombs and used water cannons to disperse demonstrations demanding civil rule and accountability for perpetrators in Khartoum and Omdurman.
Since October 25, 2022, the total death toll has reached 125.
The United Nations expert on the situation of human rights in Sudan, Adama Dieng, recently called on the Sudanese army to “put an end to the excessive use of force and lift the state of emergency in the country.”
Dieng expressed concern over the negative impacts of the state of emergency on human rights, attacks on medical facilities and health personnel, media and journalists, arbitrary arrests, detention of protesters and human rights activists, and the use of torture and other ill-treatment.
Since the Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Army, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, took power, he announced a state of emergency, the dissolution of the Sovereignty Council and the transitional ministers, and the dismissal of the governors, following the arrest of party leaders, ministers and officials. Since then, protests erupted in the country rejecting these measures, considering it a “military coup”.
