Arab Organisation for Human Rights in the UK (AOHR UK) expressed its dismay that the Jordanian authorities continue taking actions contrary to their official statements rejecting the aggression on the Gaza Strip.
The Jordanian security services arrested about 600 people, including minors, from demonstrations rejecting the genocide in Gaza. During the arrests, the security services beat, dragged, and stripped some of them before bringing them before judicial authorities on fabricated charges.
While there is an urgent need for popular rejection of the genocide of the people of Gaza, supported by the colonial West, the Jordanian authorities continue to disperse, assault and arrest demonstrators and prevent them from reaching the Jordan Valley on the border with Palestine.
These arrests are not to simply to disperse the crowds, but it rather aims at incriminating the demonstrators, as it referred them to trials on charges of inciting a riot, vandalising, assaulting security personnel, and attempting to change the regime. Furthermore, it imposed high bails on the detainees amounting to $70,000, confirming the Jordanian regime’s intention to completely suppress the Jordanian voices.
The Jordanian people have the right to express their rejection of the Israeli war crimes by all peaceful means. Attempts to crush popular solidarity and terrorising activists through arrest, unfair trials, restricting access to social media sites, and subjecting some detainees to torture is a grave violation and a serious crime that shall not be barred with lapse of time and its perpetrators shall be held accountable locally and internationally.
These arrests and the violations accompanying them are war crimes linked to the crime of genocide carried out by the occupation forces against the Palestinian people and require urgent action to end and hold its perpetrators accountable.
AOHR UK called on all the Jordanian people to continue supporting the people in the Gaza Strip by all means and to exert maximum pressure on the Jordanian government to sever all diplomatic, economic and military relations with the Israeli occupation, as this is the minimum support that can shown amid the flow of all military aid from all sides to support the occupationIn its crimes against the residents of the Gaza Strip.
The Strip is suffering a collapse in all service facilities, especially the health sector, due to the inability and unwillingness of the countries of the region to deliver aid to it, and all kinds of actual and moral support must be exerted.
AOHR UK called on the Secretary General of the United Nations, the Special Rapporteurs on arbitrary detention and the Special rapporteur on torture, and all UN bodies to pressure the Jordanian authorities to stop the campaign of arrests and suppression of freedom of opinion and expression, and to take the necessary measures to guarantee the rights of the Jordanian people to express their solidarity with the people in Gaza, with whom they share geographical and historical ties.
The popular support is a duty on all the peoples of the world, the Arab peoples and neighbouring countries in particular. Intense pressure must be put on all regimes that support the crimes of the Israeli occupation, especially those preventing the entry of medical aid and humanitarian relief.
The war crimes in Gaza, supported by superpowers, and the silence of the Arab and Islamic countries have turned all humanitarian values and international conventions to protect civilians to ashes.
It revealed the inability of the world and its institutions to take the minimum action to stop the war and deter the occupation from heinous crimes against the Gaza Strip, which has lost huge numbers of people, including women and children, in addition to the large numbers of the displaced people in hospitals and schools, who are deprived of the basic needs of life with direct orders from the occupation leaders.
