The Israeli occupation’s crimes against journalists continue, Arab Organisation for Human Rights in the UK (AOHR UK) has said, with the abuses suffered yesterday by the Al-Jazeera journalist Jivara Albudeiri. Budeiri was assaulted and arrested; the photojournalist Nabil Muzawi was also assaulted, and his camera broken.
Video footage plainly shows the aggression of the occupation forces, and that the assaults and arrests of Budeiri are part of a wider, systematic effort to block reporting of the abuses against the residents of the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood, and so solidarity with them.
AOHR UK affirms that both video footage and eyewitness testimonies indicate that Budeiri was the victim of a physical assault by occupation forces prior to her arrest. She was also assaulted in the police vehicle on the route to police headquarters.
AOHR UK insists on the need to ensure the protection of journalists working in Palestine, in light of the systematic attempts to prevent them from reporting the truth of the lives of Palestinians living under occupation – the arrests, repression, and killings.
AOHR UK affirms the necessity of accounting for every aspect of the abuses suffered by the Al-Jazeera team yesterday, and the legal pursuit of every abuse of the rights of journalists in Palestine – without which, the occupation forces will continue in exactly the same manner.
