In order to deter Palestinian journalists from exposing Israeli crimes and violations against Palestinian civilians, the Israeli occupation forces continue to specifically target them.
In this regard; four journalists were injured in an Israeli airstrike in the Nuseirat camp, in the central Gaza Strip, on Friday.
The injured journalists were identified as Sami Barhoum, Ahmed Harb, Sami Shehadeh, and Muhammad Al-Sawalhi.
Photojournalist Sami Shehadeh lost his right foot during the Israeli bombing, according to medical sources at Shuhada Al-Aqsa Hospital in Deir Al-Balah.
The sources further reported that journalist Muhammad Al-Sawalhi was injured by shrapnel in his right hand in another Israeli artillery shelling in the same area.
The attack is not the first of its kind since the start of the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip on October 7.
140 journalists have lost their lives as a result of Israeli attacks since October 7th, according to data from the Gaza government media office.
Along with the Israeli army’s announcement that it would launch a military assault on areas north of the camp in the central Gaza Strip, Nuseirat camp has been subjected to heavy artillery and air strikes since Thursday morning.
Since then, there have been numerous Palestinian fatalities and injuries as a result of Israeli bombings that have targeted houses, mosques, and roads throughout the central Gaza governorate.
The Israeli occupation forces have been waging a bloody war on Gaza since last October 7, resulting in tens of thousands of deaths and injuries as well as extensive infrastructure destruction throughout the Strip.
Israel’s aggression against Gaza is a flagrant violation of both international humanitarian law and human rights, especially that it puts the lives of civilians—including journalists and other media professionals—in grave danger and causes them immense suffering.
Human rights organisations and the international community must take action to hold the Israeli occupation regime responsible for the ongoing crimes against journalists.
