The health condition of the Palestinian prisoner suffering from cancer, Nasser Abu Hamid, seriously deteriorates, his lawyer Karim Ajwa revealed.
Shortly after his visit to Ramla Prison Hospital, Ajwa said that Abu Hamid’s health condition is continued to deteriorate as he suffers constant pains all over his body, especially in his left lung.
The cancer-stricken prisoner uses a wheelchair as he is unable to move and he increasingly requires supplemental oxygen, the lawyer added, saying that he suffers sharp weight loss.
The lawyer further said that Abu Hamid is waiting to undergo further medical tests as a tumor appeared in his left lung.
It is worth noting that the health condition of Abu Hamid has seriously deteriorated since August 2021, as he began to suffer from pain in his chest until discovering that he had a tumour on the lung, after which a 10 cm of the tumour’s circumference was removed last October.
The prisoner was later moved back to Israel’s Ashkelon jail where his condition worsened, after his access to chemotherapy was deliberately delayed more than once.
In prison, he contracted a bacterial infection, which led to the dangerous deterioration of his health.
Abu Hamid is one of five brothers from the same family, handed life sentences by Israel. A sixth brother from the same family was killed by Israeli forces.
Over 700 Palestinian prisoners are held in Israeli jails in dire need of medical attention, 170 of whom are in critical condition.
