Footage shared by Israeli TV channels showed dozens of Palestinian civilians being arrested, forced to take off their clothes, and abused by the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) after being besieged for several days in two shelter centres in Beit Lahia town in the northern Gaza Strip.
The IOF troops launched random and arbitrary arrest campaigns against displaced people, including doctors, academics, journalists, and elderly men, in the Khalifa Bin Zayed and New Aleppo schools, both of which are affiliated with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).
The Qatari Al-Araby Al-Jadeed newspaper confirmed that its correspondent and office director in Gaza, Diaa Al-Kahlot, was among those detained, along with a group of his brothers, relatives, and other civilians.
Another footage showed Palestinian detainees inside Israeli military vehicles, taken from Market Street towards an unknown destination.
The newspaper pointed out that it lost communication with its correspondent on Thursday afternoon, before it later learned from family sources that he was detained.
The Qatari paper quoted his sister as saying that the Israeli military forced Al-Kahlot to leave his seven-year-old disabled child, Nada, on her own. He was then taken into custody at gunpoint and, like all of the other detainees, had his clothes removed after being beaten severely.
Social media activists published a photo of Al-Kahlot, among other detainees who the Israeli occupation claimed to be surrounded armed fighters. The journalist appeared blindfolded and almost naked, like the rest of the civilian detainees.
IOF sniping and direct killing were also carried out against displaced people in the vicinity of the two aforementioned schools, where the IOF troops targeted everyone who tried to leave, even though they were raising white flags.
For the 63rd consecutive day, the Israeli occupation’s massive carnage continues to claim more lives in the Gaza Strip as its army persists in bombing homes and buildings and targeting civilians.
The death toll from Israeli bombardments in the Gaza Strip has risen to over 17,177 victims, 70% of them are children and women.
