Arab Organisation for Human Rights in the UK (AOHR UK) stated that the continued repression of the Jordanian security services’ to many activists for rejecting the Israeli genocide in the Gaza Strip is a disgraceful act.
It stressed that the Jordanian authorities seek to protect the occupation by suppressing the popular outrage against it, and by betraying its neighbouring country in stopping the genocide of the Palestinian people and saving them.
Instead of supporting the Palestinian people with all means; on November 11, 2023, the Jordanian security services arrested a number of human rights activists supporting the Palestinian cause, bringing their number to at least 1,000 detainees, including women and minors.
Suppressing peaceful activities in solidarity with Gaza will only lead to increased tension and resentment in Jordanian society, which has historical, doctrinal and social roots with the Palestinian issue. Jordan must be a source of justice instead of being a tool for suppressing the freedom of expression and suppressing the struggle of the Palestinian people.
The Jordanian authorities’ continued suppression of the popular outrage regarding the Palestinian cause, in addition to adopting a disgraceful position in allowing the flow of American weapons through its lands to be used by the Israeli occupation forces to crush the Gaza Strip, is unacceptable.
AOHR UK stressed the importance of the popular movement against the Israeli aggression in all parts of the world. The minimum support to the humanitarian positions of the people, countries must sever its diplomatic and economic relations with the occupation immediately, especially those neighbouring countries that could pressure the Israeli occupation to end the daily massacres against civilians in the Gaza Strip.
