Jordanian Hani Khamaiseh, 37 years-old, who has been detained since 23 March 2003, has entered his 20th year in Israeli prisons.
Khamaiseh’s mother has appealed to the Jordanian government “to work for the release of her son, sentenced to life imprisonment and subject to much mistreatment and deprivation in the occupation’s prisons.”
In a press statement, his mother said that, “it is rare that she can visit him in prison, as a result of successive Israeli bans [on family visits]”, and called on the Jordanian authorities to “give attention to the issue of Jordanian prisoners, to monitor their condition, and to secure visits for their families.”
Khamaiseh is currently held in the Nafha Prison, in the Negev desert.
Israeli authorities continue to detain 18 Jordanian prisoners. Some of are born Jordanians, whilst others are of Palestinian origin, though hold Jordanian nationality.
Of those 18, eight are serving life sentences, seven are serving sentences longer than ten years. Three have been sentenced to fewer than ten years.
