Alia Abdul Noor Death in custody
Human rights lawyers and experts will brief the media and public about the tragic death of Alia Abdul Noor, a female humanitarian worker who was detained in solitary confinement and tortured, and recently died of cancer in prison in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), despite widespread calls including from the UN for her release and to receive proper medical care.
They will consider and highlight the steps that should be taken to end these egregious human rights violations. Speakers will include Senator Marco Perduca, Italian Foreign Affairs and Human Rights Committees, Board Member No Peace Without Justice; David Young, Barrister; Juliet Wells, Barrister; Hannah Philips, Arab Organisation for Human Rights in the UK; and Joe Odell, International Campaign for Freedom in the UAE.
