The health condition of the administrative detainee in the Israeli Ofer prison, Khalil Awawdeh, has seriously deteriorated after spending 48 days of hunger strike in protest against his arbitrary detention.
The occupation authorities continues to refuse to end his administrative detention or to transfer him to a public hospital, and keeps him detained in Ramle prison clinic, despite his health condition.
Awawdeh suffers many health problems including severe neck and back pains as he needs an urgent medical surgery. However, he only receives painkillers.
Awawdeh, a father of four, was arrested more than one, most recently was in 2021 where he was held in administrative detention without charge or trial
Administrative detention is incarceration without trial or charge and is widely used by Israel against the Palestinians solely on the pretext that a person plans to commit a future offence. It has no time limit and is based on alleged secret files.
There are currently more than 500 administrative detainees out of 4,500 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons and detention centres.
