Sixteen Palestinian prisoners in Israeli occupation prisons are still continuing their open-ended hunger strike, demonstrating against their administrative detention.
According to The Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs; The health of prisoners is getting worse with the passage of days, as they suffer from joint pain, fatigue, and exhaustion, as well as remarkable weight loss, and psychological pressure due to the constant movement and daily inspection campaign to their personal belongings.
The striking prisoners are:
- The prisoner Salem Zidat, 40, from Bani Naim town, northeast of Hebron, has been on strike for 20 days and has been detained since February 22, 2020. He has been sentenced to four months in prison at the time, and after serving the detention period, it was renewed again where he has been sentenced 5 detention orders, lasting between 3 and 4 months. He is a former prisoner who spent about two years in the occupation prisons. He is married and has five sons and daughters, the eldest is 17 years old, and the youngest is four and a half years old. He is now in the Negev cells.
- The prisoner Mohamed Mounir Omar, 26, from Tulkarm, has been on strike for 18 days and has been detained since October 2020, and the occupation has issued three administrative detention orders against him. He is currently detained in Negev prison.
- The prisoner Mujahid Mahmoud Hamed from Silwad town, east of Ramallah, has been on strike for 18 days and has been detained since September 22, 2020, and the occupation issued two administrative detention orders against him for 6 months. He is a former prisoner who spent 9 years in occupation prisons. After a year and 3 months of his release, the occupation re-arrested him administratively. He is married, and at the time of his arrest his only son was a month old. He is held in Negev prison.
- Mahmoud Al-Fasfous, 30, from Dura in Hebron, has been on strike for 17 days. He was arrested several times before, since he was a child, and spent years in the occupation prisons. He was re-arrested administratively in July 2020. He is held in Raymond Prison.
- The prisoner Kayed Al-Fosfous, 32, brother of Mahmoud, has been on strike for 17 days, and he is a former prisoner who was arrested several times, the last of which was in July 2020, shortly after Mahmoud was arrested. He is married and the father of a child, and is held in Raymond prison.
- The prisoner Raafat Al-Darawish, 28, from Dura, south of Hebron, has been on strike for 17 days, and he is a former prisoner who was arrested several times, the last of which was on October 2020. He is married and has a son. He suffers from chest problems and is currently detained in Raymond Prison.
- Guevara Namoura, 28, from Dura, south of Hebron, has been on strike for 17 days. He is a player in the Palestinian national team. He was arrested by the occupation in October 2020 for the second time. He is married and has a son. He is held in Raymond Prison.
- Maher Delaysha, 46, from Al-Jalazun camp near Ramallah, has been on strike for 12 days. He is a former prisoner who spent a total of ten years in prison, including five administrative years. The occupation re-arrested him on March 23, 2021. He is married and is a father of five children. The occupation issued two administrative detention orders against him for a period of four months. When his first administrative order expired about a week ago, his name was among those to be released. After his release about a week ago, he was informed by post of a renewal order of detention, and accordingly, he went on a strike He is currently detained in Negev prison.
- Alaa El-Din Khaled Ali, 38, from Jalazun, near Ramallah, went on a strike 11 days ago. The occupation arrested him in January and issued two administrative detention orders against him for a period of 6 months. The first order ended this July, and the occupation renewed a second detention order. He is a former prisoner who was arrested more than once, and he spent a total of three and a half years in occupation prisons, the majority of which is in administrative detention. In the first detention, he was subjected to a harsh interrogation that lasted 90 days. He is married and the father of three daughters and sons. He is held in Negev prison.
- The prisoner Fadi Al-Amour, 31, from Yatta, south of Hebron, has been on strike for 11 days. The occupation arrested him on May 20, under administrative detention for a period of four months. He is a former prisoner who spent a total of 7 years, including 6 years continuously in occupation prisons. He was released in 2020 after serving his sentence; however, he was re-arrested shortly after his release. He is now held in Negev prison. He has a prisoner brother who is administratively detained, Mohamed Al-Amour.
- The prisoner Hussam Taysir Rabii, from Yatta, south of Hebron, has been on strike for 11 days. The occupation arrested him last May and transferred him to administrative detention for a period of six months. This is his second detention. He is married and the father of six children.
- The prisoner Mohamed Khaled Abu Sal, 30, from Al-Aroub camp in Hebron, has been on strike for 11 days and has been detained for ten months. The occupation issued three administrative detention orders against him, one for 6 months, and the second is for 6 months, which was reduced to four months. Recently he had an administrative detention order issued against him for a period of four months, and he is currently detained in Negev prison.
- The prisoner Ahmed Abdel-Rahman Abu Salem, 26, from Al-Aroub camp in Hebron, has been on strike for 11 days and has been in detention for ten months. The occupation issued three administrative detention orders. He is a former prisoner who spent more than 5 years in Israeli prisons. He is married and has one child and he also has a detained brother, Mahmoud Abu Sal, and is currently held in Negev prison.
- The prisoner Ahmed Hassan Nazzal, 53, from Jenin, has been on strike for 11 days, has is detained in “Megiddo” prison since January 9, 2021. He remained in detention until the occupation intelligence transferred him to administrative detention recently for a period of six months ago, then he went on a hunger strike. He is a former prisoner who spent a total of about 9 years in occupation prisons. He is married and the father of seven sons and daughters.
- The prisoner Miqdad Al-Qawasmeh, 24, from Hebron, has been on strike for 10 days. He has been detained since January 2021 and is held in “Ofer” prison. He is a former prisoner who has spent about four years of administrative detention and verdicts since 2015. He is a university student, and he has a detained brother who has been detained since March.
- Mohamed Nawara from Ramallah, detained since 2001, is on strike for 7 days, demonstrating against his solitary confinement. He is sentenced to life imprisonment. He was a minor when the occupation forces arrested him. Administrative detention is a detention without charge or trial, which is based on a secret file that the detainee or his lawyer cannot have access to. According to the military orders of the occupation, an administrative detention order can be renewed unlimited times, where an administrative detention order is issued for a maximum renewable period of six months.
Palestinian statistics indicate that there are 4,850 Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons, including children and women, 540 of whom are in administrative detention, some of whom had administrative detention more than once.
Arab Organisation for Human Rights in the UK recently called for a solidarity campaign with the Palestinian prisoners on hunger strike, to demand their immediate release, as their unfair detention and their ongoing hunger strike pose a serious threat to their lives.
