The United Nations Human Rights Council has declared, on Thursday, May 27, to start a commission to investigate the Israeli practices affecting the human rights of the Palestinians in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including Jerusalem, until April 14, 2021. The decision was taken during a special session according to Pakistan’s request after the deterioration of the human rights situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, and it was highly supported by most of the member states of the UN.
The resolution earned the approval of 24 states, and the refusal of 9 states, including Austria, Bulgaria, Cameroon, the Czech Republic, Germany, Malawi, Marshall Islands, Britain, and Uruguay. Whilst the states that abstained from voting are India, The Bahamas, Brazil, Denmark, Fiji, France, Italy, Japan, Nepal, Netherlands, Poland, Korea, Togo, and Ukraine.
On April 14, 2021, the Occupied Palestinian Territories witnessed continuous violations of the Palestinians’ human rights committed by Israel. Such as the barbaric practices of the Israeli forces against the Palestinians in Jerusalem, and their attacks on the worshipers in Al-Aqsa Mosque. In addition to their attacks on the residents of Sheikh Jarrah Neighborhood (East Jerusalem), and their settler-colonialist practices to forcedly dispossess them from their houses and replace them with Israeli settlers. Later on, the Israeli Forces extended their attacks on the Palestinians of the West Bank and started the bombardment of the Gaza Strip on May 10, 2021.
According to the Ministry of Health in Gaza, the Israeli aggression on Gaza caused the death of 255 Palestinians, including 66 children, 39 women, 17 elderly, and 5 people with disabilities, as well as 1948 people were wounded. Besides the massive destruction of the residential buildings and infrastructure of Gaza. Meanwhile, in the West Bank and the Occupied Palestinian Territories, 279 were killed by the Israeli Forces and settlers, including 69 children, 40 women, 17 elderly, and more than 8900 were injured.
Arab Organization for Human Rights denounced the Israeli’s practices affecting the human rights of the Palestinians and called for an urgent deterrence against the continuous violations of human rights committed by Israel against the Palestinians. Moreover, it stated that the international community’s silence on these violations makes it a silent partner in the crime, and a supporter of the Israeli illegal practices against the Palestinians.
