Arab Organisation for Human Rights in the UK (AOHR UK) condemned the decision of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres not to include Israel on the list of violators of children’s rights.
AOHR UK added that this decision clearly contradicts all United Nations reports, and the report on the violation of children’s rights itself, which contained compelling evidence that Israel is committing systematic crimes against Palestinian children by using lethal force, arrest, and torture.
AOHR UK pointed out to the accumulation of evidence on the commission of Israel of daily crimes against children.
Moreover, media and video reports show children covered in blood after being shot with live bullets, children whose eyes were pulled out after being shot with rubber bullets, child detainees being taken away by dozens of heavily armed soldiers from the streets and homes in the middle of the night after being beaten, as well as the children’s testimonies of the physical and psychological torture they face during their interrogation.
For the Secretary-General of the United Nations to avoid this scandal he could have had a look at the data in 2021 to provide a solid, fair and supportive stance for children in Palestine.
In the recent war on Gaza, Israel killed 69 children and injured hundreds of them, causing permanent disabilities. It also displaced thousands of them after destroying their homes, in addition to the psychological trauma caused to children as a result of the continuous bombing of the Gaza Strip.
In the West Bank and Jerusalem, Israel uses live and rubber bullets and tear gas to disperse the demonstrators, which has led to the killing of 9 children since the beginning of the year and the injury of dozens of them with serious injuries. The occupation forces also arrested more than 350 children and brought many of them to trial and issued sentences against them like those used against adults.
This report confirms once again that Israel, the occupying entity that practices killing, torture, racial discrimination, displacement, home demolitions, and settlements, is an entity that sees itself above the law, and is unconditionally protected from forces that bully the United Nations institutions.
The inability of the United Nations institutions, throughout decades of the occupation’s crimes against the Palestinians, to hold them accountable has led to the enjoyment of leaders of the entity of complete impunity.
These institutions have failed to put an effective mechanism to prosecute the perpetrators of these crimes, and the decision of the UN Secretary-General not to include Israel on the list of criminals reinforces the impunity of the occupation leaders and encourages their commission of more horrific crimes.
