On Monday, December 20, 2021, the State Security Court has ordered the imprisonment of Alaa Abdel Fattah for 5 years and Mohamed Al-Baqer and Mohamed Ibrahim OKA Oxygen for 4 years, in case number 1228/2021, on charges of publishing fake news that threatens national security.
The court has reviewed the case over three sessions only, on October 1, October 18, and November 8, 2021.
Alaa Abdel Fattah and Mohamed Al-Baqer had already spent two years in detention pending investigations in another case No. 1356/2019 in which no evidence was found against them, only to involve them in the new case and order their imprisonment today.
During the three sessions, lawyers representing the defendants were not able to obtain papers of the file to prepare their defence and present it before the court to prove the innocence of their clients and the court also refused the presence of the international experts, although the sessions were public.
