Arab Organisation for Human Rights in the UK (AOHR UK) confirmed that despite the deep humanitarian losses since the beginning of the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip; the international community, major countries of the world, and even the UN continued to permit Israel’s aggression by granting it the right to defend its security.
AOHR UK stated that until now, more than 119 Palestinians have been killed, including 31 children and 19 women, while hundreds have been seriously injured. Furthermore, hundreds of homes have been destroyed and its residents have been displaced.
Despite all these shocking numbers, the international community never took action to stop or restrain the Israeli attacks.
Rather, on a phone call between the two, the US president, Joe Biden, assured Netanyahu of Israel’s right to self-defense, and the US delegate to the Security Council objected to a statement submitted by Tunisia condemning these crimes, while the UN Secretary General and his spokesperson called on Israel to control its use of force only.
None of the states’ presidents or UN officials stressed the Palestinian people’s right to defend themselves against the Israeli aggression. They only mourned for the civilian victims, as if Israel had the right to use all forces while and the Palestinians had the right to bury their victims only without having the right to respond and deter the aggressor as guaranteed by the international humanitarian law.
In this context, AOHR UK denounced the position of the Prosecutor of International Criminal Court, who only announced that she is monitoring the situation in Jerusalem, the West Bank, and Gaza and that there are “possible commission of crimes under the Rome Statute” including the victim and the aggressor.
However, the mandate of the Prosecutor of the ICC is not to issue statements and announce monitoring the situation, but to take serious actions including the issuance of arrest warrants.
For decades, the occupation leaders have enjoyed impunity which encouraged them to commit more crimes.
The Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, Al-Aqsa Mosque, the worshipers, and the displacement attempts of the residents of Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood, and the building of settlements threaten international peace and security and may lead to great chaos in the region.
The silence of the international community and bring satisfaction with only stopping violence -while treating the victim and the aggressor the same-, simply turns it into a partner in the grave crimes committed by the Israeli forces against the Palestinian people.
The failure of the UN Security Council to adopt a resolution to stop the aggression and protect the Palestinian people, leads to the replacement of the Security Council with the UN General Assembly, in accordance with Resolution No. 377 of 1950, and gives it the power to take all possible measures to protect the Palestinian people.
The Office of the Public Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court must stop issuing statements of condemnation, since this is not its mandate, and it should take a serious step in the open official investigation, direct charges to the relevant occupation leaders, and work on issuing arrest warrants as per the rules.
